LiveOnline@UT (Zoom) is the UT-branded name for the software used to deliver live, interactive classes via the Internet.


The Zoom AI Companion

Zoom’s AI Companion is now available in our main UT Zoom environment. Meeting leaders may enable the AI tools in their account at any time by following the instructions below. The Zoom AI Companion can summarize meeting topics for participants and add highlights and chapters to Zoom cloud recordings.

How to Engage Zoom AI Companion in your UT Zoom Account

    1. Please go to and select “Create or Edit Account” to login with your NetID and password.
    2. After logging in, select Settings on the menu on the left.
    3. Select the AI Companion heading at the top of the page.
    4. Toggle features to On as desired.

New Zoom App for Chromebooks

If you are a Chromebook user and engage Zoom, there’s a new app for your device. Zoom recommends downloading and installing their new Zoom for Chrome PWA application for use with Chromebooks. Select this link to install the Zoom for Chrome PWA application.

Keep Up-to-Date with Software Updates

For the best user experience, be sure to stay up-to-date with software updates. The latest update often includes feature enhancements and service patches that improve application functionality.

Zoom recently implemented a Quarterly Software Lifecycle Policy. Please review this page for the latest information regarding Zoom’s software lifecycle. The May 2024 application update includes:
1. A name change from Zoom to “Zoom Workplace.”
2. Bolder icons in the Zoom desktop application and on the meeting toolbar.
3. The Security icon on the toolbar is now the “Host tools” icon.

To update the Zoom desktop application:

  1. Log in to the desktop application.
  2. Select the profile image at the top-right of the application window (this could be your initials or a profile picture that you have uploaded).
  3. Choose the option to Check for Updates and follow the prompts on screen.
