What you need to know about your file sharing and storage options

OIT supports several file-sharing services: Microsoft OneDrive and Groups, Google Drive, T-Storage, and UT Vault.

Microsoft OneDrive and Groups

OneDrive on your Mac, PC, Android, iOS, or Windows mobile device gives you a single place for up-to-date versions of your files from anywhere.

  • 5 TB quota
  • Share individual files or whole folders. Create and reply to comments on files to get feedback or add ideas
  • Departments can create a Microsoft 365 group with attached OneDrive storage
  • Microsoft 365 groups start with a 1TB quota and can be elevated to 25TB
  • Max 15GB file size
  • Recycle Bin: Available for 90 days
  • Data is encrypted at rest on the server and in transit
  • Certified for HIPAA/PHI, FERPA, and PII data
  • Collaborate with groups

Google Drive

Google Drive on your Mac, PC, Android, or iOS device gives you a single place for up-to-date versions of your files from anywhere.

  • 50 GB Storage, shared with Gmail and other Google apps
  • Share individual files or whole folders. Create and reply to comments on files to get feedback or add ideas
  • Recycle Bin: Available for 30 days and then restorable for 25 days
  • Data is encrypted at rest on the server and in transit
  • Certified for HIPPA/PHI, FERPA and PII data

T-Storage

T-Storage provides a central location for users and departments to store and share files. These options are available to all Knoxville-area faculty, staff, and students:

  • Available as a mapped drive on your computer
  • Personal quota: 1 GB
  • Departmental Quota: 200 GB/user
  • Certified for FERPA data
  • Backups available for 90 days
  • Data is encrypted in transit only through the VPN, encrypted wireless networks, and Windows 8.1/10 clients
  • Maintenance Window: Sunday 10am-Noon
  • The cost for T-Storage is: .04/GB/month billed monthly for unit storage use greater than 1 TB

UT Vault

Vault is a secure file transfer application that allows users to send large files quickly and securely. Vault is available to all current faculty, staff, and student at the University of Tennessee. Non-UT users can also use this service as long as they are sending or receiving messages to UT faculty, staff, and students.

This service is available 24/7, except during scheduled and emergency maintenance. All efforts are made to perform maintenance on Sunday from 10am to 12pm.
