What you need to know about your file sharing and storage options

OIT supports several file sharing services: T-Storage, Office 365 OneDrive, Google Drive, and UT Vault.

T-Storage

T-Storage provides a central location for users and departments to store and share files. These options are available to all Knoxville-area faculty, staff, and students:

  • Available as a mapped drive on your computer
  • Personal quota: 50 GB
  • Departmental Quota: 200 GB/user
  • Certified for FERPA data
  • Backups available for 90 days
  • Data is encrypted in transit only through the VPN and encrypted wireless networks
  • Maintenance Window: Wednesday, 10pm-4am; Sunday, midnight-noon

Office 365 OneDrive for Business and Groups

OneDrive for Business on your Mac, PC, Android, iOS, or Windows mobile device gives you a single place for up-to-date versions of your files from anywhere.

  • 1 TB quota; can be elevated to 5TB
  • Share individual files or whole folders. Create and reply to comments on files to get feedback or add ideas.
  • Departments can create an Office 365 group with attached OneDrive storage
  • Office 365 groups start with 1TB quota and can be elevated to 25TB
  • Max 10GB file size
  • Recycle Bin: Available for 90 days
  • Data is encrypted at rest, on the server, and in transit
  • Certified for HIPAA/PHI, FERPA, and PII data
  • Collaborate with groups

Google Drive

Google Drive on your Mac, PC, Android, or iOS device gives you a single place for up-to-date versions of your files from anywhere.

  • Unlimited Storage
  • Share individual files or whole folders. Create and reply to comments on files to get feedback or add ideas.
  • Recycle Bin: Available until deleted and then restorable for 25 days
  • Data is encrypted at rest, on the server, and in transit
  • Certified for FERPA and PII data

UT Vault

Vault is a secure file transfer application that allows users to send large files quickly and securely. Vault is available to all current faculty, staff, and student at the University of Tennessee. Non-UT users can also use this service as long as they are sending or receiving messages to UT faculty, staff, and students.

This service is available 24/7, except during scheduled and emergency maintenance. All efforts are made to perform maintenance on Wednesday night from 10pm-4am, and on Sunday from 12am to 12pm.
