About HPSC Director



Victor Hazlewood

Victor received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Texas A&M in 1988 and has been involved in high performance computing (HPC) for his entire career working at Texas A&M University Supercomputer Center (now Texas A&M University High Performance Research Computing), San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and now as the Associate CIO & Director of High Performance & Scientific Computing (HPSC) at University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), the flagship campus of the University of Tennessee. Victor has been a Certified Information Systems Security Professional since 2002 and been involved and leading HPC and security implementations and deployments at SDSC, ORNL, and UTK. Victor has worked in a variety of areas of IT and HPC including systems, operations, security, storage, grid middleware, infrastructure and the NSF supercomputer center management projects NPACI, TeraGrid, and XSEDE and has shown progressive leadership as an analyst, manager, CISO, Deputy Director of Operations of XSEDE, and now culminating in his role as HPSC Director at UTK. As HPSC Director, Victor leads a group of full time staff and Graduate Research Assistants in advancing the broad research mission of the University of Tennessee and provides support, education, and training for three campus cluster resources including one cluster and VM environment for storing and processing sensitive information.
