As a student, you have a choice between Outlook and Gmail for your UT-provided email service. Regardless of which service you choose for email delivery, you will have access to Microsoft 365 for Education and Google for Education.

The retention policy for permanently deleted items is 14 days. Microsoft 365/Volmail accounts are not backed up by Microsoft, and OIT is unable able to restore files from backup should they be inadvertently deleted.
You will retain your Volmail account indefinitely after leaving the University.
Before you graduate or leave the university, we encourage you to set up your Volmail password options BEFORE your NetID has been deleted from the UT Directory. Your NetID will be deleted from the UT Directory one year after graduating or leaving UT. Verify your NetID password reset answers so that if you forget your password, you will be able to create a new one. To verify your NetID password reset answers, go to directory.utk.edu/reset and follow the instructions.
