Keeping Content Within Canvas Pages

It’s exciting to work on adding content to your Canvas course site, especially at the start of the semester!
As you build your course modules by adding links to multiple readings, paragraphs of text, and embedding videos, consider keeping all content within a single page. Adding content to a single page, one module item at a time, helps students engage with the material efficiently.
Here are a few tips:
- Keep it Simple: Simplify the course page to help students gain momentum throughout the semester. Too much information on a single page can overwhelm learners and lead to cognitive overload.
- Keep it Accessible: Design Canvas pages to ensure that all students can easily access and engage with the content, regardless of their abilities. Consider using the accessibility checker in the Rich Content Editor tool to check for issues such as color contrast, image alt text, proper heading structure, and table markup.
- Keep it Organized: To enhance accessibility, use the Rich Content Editor tool to add files like scanned PDFs and PowerPoints to a course page instead of adding reading materials as links to modules.
- Keep it Consistent: Leveraging familiar, accessible design practices within Canvas makes it easier for instructors to create content that meets accessibility standards. Consider using the UTK Canvas course template to structure your course site for student success.
