UT Libraries is a Partner in Student Success

Teaching Research Skills

Librarians are available for classroom or remote instruction on a broad range of topics, including information literacy, media literacy, research processes, and data management. Check out this guide to resources and services available to faculty.

Self-Paced Guides to Library Research

The Libraries’ online learning resources include (1) librarian-curated research guides—on broad topics or tied to specific courses—and (2) online tutorials that offer a self-paced approach to navigating specific databases and research tools, as well as information literacy concepts such as developing a topic, understanding primary and secondary sources, and source evaluation. These online tutorials can be used by individual students and entire classes.

Tutorials are not all cut-and-dried! Jargon Blaster, for instance, is an interactive game that uses UT’s beloved mascot, Smokey, to demystify library jargon.

Incorporating Library Resources into Canvas

To make it easy for students to access these self-paced tutorials and other library offerings, a “Resources at UT Libraries” page is accessible from the default Canvas navigation bar for all courses.

To add research guides, tutorials, and other library resources to your Canvas course, visit the Libraries’ page on “Incorporating Resources into Canvas.” Instructors can also embed a librarian in a course so students can reach out for personalized research assistance directly from their Canvas course. Visit this webpage to find out which librarian is the subject specialist for your discipline.
