Using Enhanced Rubrics for End of Semester Grading

Advanced Rubrics

As the Fall Semester begins to wind down, you may be planning those final projects and assignments and deciding how to best grade them in a timely manner that benefits you and your students. Consider utilizing Enhanced Rubrics within Canvas.

Why Use Rubrics

There are many benefits for both students and instructors to using rubrics with an assignment or project.

For instructors, rubrics can:

  • Provide a consistent method of assessing from student-to-student.
  • Save time grading in the long-term and short-term.
  • Give effective feedback.
  • Promote student learning in a way that is sustainable.
  • Clarify expectations and parts of an assignment for both TAs and students.
  • Help fine tune teaching methods by evaluating rubric results.

For students, rubrics can:

  • Provide a clearer understanding of assignment expectations and components.
  • Help focus on awareness of their learning process.
  • Improve their work through timely and detailed feedback.
