Upcoming Changes to Two-Factor Authentication Methods

Beginning on August 4, OneIT is changing two of the two-factor authentication methods.
- Duo bypass codes will be available only for short-term, temporary access and should no longer be used for regular sign-in.
- OneIT will no longer distribute legacy hardware tokens. We recommend FIDO security keys instead
Bypass codes: What you need to do before August 4
Set up a primary Duo authentication method to avoid interruption to your access:
- Use Duo Mobile on a compatible smartphone, or
- Purchase a FIDO security key if you do not have a compatible smartphone
About FIDO Security Keys
A FIDO security key is a small hardware device used for secure sign-in and multi-factor authentication. It typically plugs into a USB port or connects over NFC. Instead of relying on a text message, a phone app, or a bypass code, a FIDO key provides physical proof of possession during sign-in.
Why this change is happening
Bypass codes are intended for temporary access and are less secure than Duo Mobile or a FIDO security key. Moving to a primary authentication method will better protect your account and help ensure more reliable access to UT systems.
