Rise in Security Risk
The UTK and UT System Administration cybersecurity teams have seen a recent uptick in attempts and threats to our organization. It takes a team effort to ensure our security. Here are a few reminders to be extra observant and cautious while using technology.
- When searching the web, ensure you visit reputable websites and apps. Do not download suspicious files.
- Be cautious of emails, messages, chats, or links from unknown sources.
- Never click on any links or attachments from questionable sources.
- Check to see if a suspicious message has been reported as phishing on the OIT Recent Email Scams website. If not, you may report an email to abuse by reporting it from your email client.
- Encrypt emails or use the UT Vault to send sensitive information. The University will never contact you to confirm your password or personal information.
- Connect to eduroam while using Wi-Fi on campus.
Report suspicious activity to the OIT HelpDesk at 865-974-9900 or online at help.utk.edu. The HelpDesk will forward this information to the security team.
