Summer Travel Tips: Use Eduroam for Secure Wi-Fi

Summer Travel. Happy people in a convertible car with their arms in the air.

The Office of Innovative Technologies recommends connecting to eduroam, the university’s secure Wi-
Fi network, for faster and more secure access to Wi-Fi!

What Do You Need to Do?

Connect to eduroam. If you see eduroam on your laptop, phone, or mobile devices, sign in with your UT email address to get connected. Visit the OIT Knowledge Base for detailed instructions for signing into Eduroam on Windows or macOSAndroid, and iOS (iPhone/iPad).

  • Faculty and Staff Login: and NetID password
  • Student Login: and NetID password

What if You Can’t See Eduroam?

Older devices incapable of faster connections on eduroam can use the ut-open network. Remember, ut-open is a non-secure network, similar to what you might connect to at a restaurant or other public Wi-Fi. We recommend not using ut-open for anything you wouldn’t want an eavesdropper to know — including logging into accounts with passwords. Use ut-open for topics of conversation you would happily discuss in public.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are having trouble getting connected to eduroam, check out the OIT Knowledge Base for a few steps you can take.
