Students: Prepare for Life after UT

Life After Graduation, Image of students clapping in cap and gown at a graduation ceremony.

Congratulations Grads!  With graduation just around the corner, you may be wondering what you will have access to—and for how long—once you leave UT.

We have put together a list of the most popular IT services. Access to these services is based on your official “Left UT” date (typically your graduation date).

UT Email and Transitioning to an Alumni Account

You have one year to sign up for and transition to your alumni email account. OIT will send you information about your next steps; check your email periodically for instructions. You can learn more about alumni email at oit.utk.edu/alumni.

Microsoft 365 OneDrive

You can retain access to your Microsoft 365 OneDrive and other Microsoft 365 online apps for one calendar year. At the end of this year, you will lose access to the files stored in your UTK OneDrive, and Microsoft will delete them. OIT recommends backing up and transferring your files to another third-party service.

Microsoft 365 Apps

(formerly Office 365 ProPlus)
Once you have left the University, your Microsoft 365 Apps subscription will end, and access to the desktop applications will no longer be available. After this time, you can enroll in other available consumer or commercial offers from Microsoft or other third-party retailers.

Google Workspace

(including Google Drive)
Access to the Google Workspace services, including Google Drive, will remain available for one year.

Additional Apps

Information about the retention of other popular OIT services, such as Canvas, MyUTK, Apps@UTK, the OIT Labs, and Web Surveys, is available in the OIT Knowledge Base article, Leaving UT: IT Checklist for Faculty, Staff, and Students.
