Intune: New Mac Onboarding Process

Mac, Microsoft Intune

Beginning April 2026, the onboarding process for newly purchased Mac devices is changing as part of the university’s ongoing Intune and Apple School Manager (ASM) modernization effort.

What’s Changing?

  1. All newly purchased Macs will now be automatically enrolled in Apple School Manager (ASM) and Microsoft Intune.
  2. The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) will manage these devices, unless a department has an approved Intune configuration in place.

What about Existing Macs?

Onboarding previously purchased Macs into Intune and Apple School Manager is underway. OIT continues to work with IT Administrators to enroll these Macs into the program.

Who is Impacted?

  • IT administrators purchasing new Macs
  • Departments without dedicated IT staff
  • Individual Mac owners whose devices exist outside departmental IT management

Why Intune Adoption Matters

The updates are intended to strengthen security, standardize device management, and simplify long-term long-term support. We understand that the transition can be confusing, particularly for units without dedicated IT staff. OIT is available to help your department navigate the process.
