Canvas: Viewing Student Group Uploaded Assignments

Student group work is known to promote active learning and engagement. However, there are some instances when unexpected disputes happen within groups. When such situations occur, instructors may need to identify which group member submitted the assignment.
To address this concern, consider the following two approaches:
View the Group Home Page:
- Go to the groups list (under People) and find the relevant group.
- Select Visit Group Homepage from the three-dot menu (…) to access the group’s Canvas space.
- Look in Files in the Submissions folder. You will see the date created and date modified column, which shows the possible student who uploaded the file.
For illustrated instructions, read the Canvas community guide: How do I view content and student activity within a group as an instructor?
View the Student Access Report:
- Click the People link in your course navigation menu and select the student’s name.
- Select the student’s name again in the sidebar/tray that pops up.
- Select Access Report.
- Find the assignment in the list and check the Times Participated column.
- The student who submitted will show a “1.0”, while the other students will be blank.
