Auto-Email Reply: What to Expect When Reporting Spam

To promote a positive user experience, timely responses, and clear transparency across campus, the OIT Security team maintains an automatic confirmation system for emails reported as phishing. 

When a user reports a suspicious message using the “Report Phishing” button in Outlook, the email is sent to our automated analysis system for determination. As part of this new process, the reporting user will now receive an automatic reply from email-verdict@tennessee.edu confirming that their submission was received and is being reviewed. 

The response system provides several key benefits: 

  • Immediate confirmation: Users no longer have to wonder whether their report was successfully submitted. 
  • Improved transparency: The automated response helps users understand the status of their reported message. 
  • Streamlined operations: Automation allows the security team to focus more time on threat analysis and incident response.
