New Canvas Course Accessibility Checker

Instructure, the company behind Canvas, has introduced a new tool, the Course Accessibility Checker, now available in all Canvas courses. This resource expands our accessibility toolkit, joining UDOIT, Canvas’s existing Rich Content Editor accessibility checker, and YuJa Panorama, which will be available soon.
The Course Accessibility Checker scans Canvas Pages and Assignments to identify common accessibility errors, including missing alt text for images, incorrect heading structures, and tables without headers or descriptive captions. A comprehensive list of accessibility issues the Checker can detect is available in the Canvas Community support documentation.
Beyond identifying accessibility errors, the Checker also provides a centralized space for reviewing and correcting them. This makes it a valuable resource as we continue working toward compliance with the new Title II ADA regulations. The Accessibility Checker can be accessed by selecting the Accessibility link in the course navigation menu.
