Transition Guide for Google Apps

The University is switching to Microsoft as the primary university-wide platform for collaboration and productivity tools, reducing the use of Google services on campus.

Gmail and Calendar are moving to Microsoft 365 Outlook.

Recommendation: Beginning in June 2025, OIT will move email, calendar, and contacts for faculty and staff from Gmail to Outlook. Visit the Faculty, Staff, and Departmental NetIDs page for more information and timelines.

New students and employee automatically use Outlook for email.

Google Drive Logo

Google Drive will remain available; however, the available storage space will be reduced significantly. 

Recommendation: Use Microsoft OneDrive

Clean up your Google Drive by deleting files you no longer need. Visit the sites below for additional instructions.

Google Classroom Logo

Classroom

Classroom will remain available.

Recommendation: Faculty and Staff using Google Classroom should contact OIT to discuss alternatives.

Google Colab Logo

Colab

Colab will remain available.

Google Analytics Logo

Google Analytics

Google Analytics will remain available. 

Google Forms Logo

Forms

Forms will remain available; however, the available storage space will be reduced significantly. 

Recommendation: Create new forms using Microsoft 365 Forms.

Google Photos Logo

Photos

Access to Google Photos will be discontinued on June 3, 2025 .

Recommendation: Copy any photos stored in Google Photos to alternate storage and delete the copy in Google Photos. Follow the instructions on Google’s website.

Google Scholar Logo

Scholar and Scholar Profiles

Scholar and Scholar Profiles will remain available.

Recommendation: Consider converting your Scholar Profile to a personal Google account.

YouTube Logo

YouTube

YouTube will be unaffected by this change. 

Recommendation for personal channels: Non-university business YouTube channels should be converted to a personal account.
