To participate in a LiveOnline@UT(Zoom) Test Flight

  1. Log in to Online@UT (Canvas) with your NetID and password.
  2. Select the Test Flight link located in the Canvas announcement (Please note, the Test Flight link will be posted a few minutes prior to the start times listed above).
  3. You may be prompted to enter your NetID and/or to authenticate.
  4. During the application launch process, you may be prompted to download and install the Zoom application. Click Ok or yes to run, trust, open, or accept the application.

We will be happy to help diagnose any issues with you should you have difficulty with your Test Flight.

Tips for a Successful Test Flight Experience

  • Use a USB headset for best sound quality.
  • Connect to the Test Flight session from the location and computer you plan to use with your class.
  • Keep in mind that connectivity speed and network permissions vary from location to location.

Recommendations and Common Issues

Connection to the Internet:

  • For the best experience in a LiveOnline@UT (Zoom) high-definition meeting, we recommend a wired-in connection whenever possible.  The application will adjust automatically for 3G+, Wi-Fi, or Wired environments.
  • Wireless connections are often twice as slow as cabled connections. Even if you have a wireless “n” router, with speeds up to 300 Mbps, you cannot take advantage of that if your connection to the Internet is on 6Mbps. Wireless router speeds are only as good as the pipe connecting the router to the Internet.

Additional Internet activity in your house (wired or wireless) while attending online classes will impact the quality of your session:

  • Minimize other Internet activity at your location while attending classes.
  • Restart your router/gateway at least weekly.
  • Find out what your internet service provider’s “lack of activity” timeout is. Sometimes this is as little as 15 minutes.  Network timeouts will reset your connections and create problems with your class session.
