For Secure Wi-Fi, Choose Eduroam

Choose eduroam

When accessing the wireless network from campus, OIT recommends connecting to eduroam, the university’s secure Wi-Fi network, for faster and more secure access to your tools and data!

What Do You Need to Do?

Connect to eduroam. If you see eduroam on your laptop, phone, or mobile devices, sign in with your UT email address to get connected. Visit the OIT Knowledge Base for detailed instructions for signing into Eduroam on Windows or macOSAndroid, and iOS (iPhone/iPad).

  • Faculty and Staff Login: NetID@utk.edu and NetID password
  • Student Login: NetID@vols.utk.edu and NetID password

What if You Don’t See Eduroam?

Don’t access sensitive accounts using public W-Fi. Older devices incapable of faster connections on eduroam can use the ut-open network. While ut-open is available on campus, it is a non-secure network, similar to what you might connect to at a restaurant or other public Wi-Fi. We recommend not using ut-open for anything you wouldn’t want an eavesdropper to know—especially when logging into accounts that require passwords. Use ut-open for topics of conversation you would happily discuss in public.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you experience trouble connecting to eduroam, try visiting the OIT Knowledge Base for a few steps you can take. For additional assistance, please contact the OIT HelpDesk at 865-974-9900.
