Beware of New IT Scam Targeting Students

Don't Volunteer Your Info

There is a new scam targeting students on campus! Scammers are sending emails pretending to be from OIT and telling students their accounts will be terminated unless they provide their personal information to verify their accounts. Sounds scary, right?

Here’s what you need to know:

  • OIT will NEVER ask for your password or Duo code.
  • OIT will NEVER text you out of the blue asking to verify your info.
  • NEVER approve a login request from your Duo app unless you’re trying to log in.

If scammers get your account info, they can access everything, including your bank information.

Have questions about a sketchy message? Don’t reply to it!
Instead, contact the OIT HelpDesk at 865-974-9900 or online at help.utk.edu. You can also report it to OIT by clicking on the Report button in Outlook or the Report Spam button in Gmail. Our team will review the email to see what’s going on.

Report spam within Outlook or Gmail by selecting the suspicious email and selecting the Spam/Report Spam button.

As new scams emerge, OIT will post them online at oit.utk.edu/scams.

Stay safe out there!
