In July 2023, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Mobile Communications of America Inc. (MCA) commissioned five areas of campus for expanded Verizon cellular service. MCA placed antennas in the following locations: 

• Hesler Biology Building pointing North 
• Reese Hall pointing in all directions 
• John C. Hodges Library pointing North, West, and South 
• Thornton Athletics Student Life Center pointing in all directions 
• West Campus Parking Garage (G7) pointing East 

With the addition of these locations, the count of cellular service antennas on the Knoxville campus has climbed to 23. This expansion is part of OIT’s continuing effort to bring cellular servicesto otherwise underserved areas of campus. OIT and MCS are working with carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and US Cellular to offer more services and coverage to the campus community.
