Two-Factor Authentication Coming to Public Lamp
On June 15, 2022, OIT will require two-factor authentication (2FA) to access the OIT Public LAMP environment (linux.oit.utk.edu). Once required, you will receive a Duo prompt when connecting to your Public LAMP account using an SSH or SFTP client.
Because of this change, you may need to connect to or configure your client differently.
- FileZilla and Dreamweaver users
- WordPress users
- You will not be able to use the SSH plugin to update their WordPress installation through the Dashboard
- Follow manual instructions for updating WordPress*
- Follow manual instructions for updating plugins*
- Virtual host or vanity URL with your Public LAMP account
- Continue to use the Dashboard to update WordPress.
Departmental NetID Managed Websites
If you own or manage a departmental NetID or student organization account, you can update the approved devices for your account on the Password Management site.

Update: Connecting to Public LAMP via Cyberduck or FileZilla
After the 2FA deployment, we discovered some updated settings that may enhance the user experience to connect to Public lamp from Cyberduck or FileZilla. You can limit the number of times you are prompted to 2FA authenticate by adjusting the Transfer settings within the client.
