OIT Training

Learn new skills and software packages with the help of OIT Training. Our hands-on, live Zoom workshops, self-paced online training, and now our new training development service will help prepare you to tackle technology demands in your academics, career, department, research, and everyday life. 

Live Workshops (most are offered via Zoom)

Keep an eye on the OIT workshop calendar or the UT Knoxville Events Calendar. We add additional workshops throughout the semester. 

Productivity Tools: Learn the tools to fuel your creativity and get more done. Topics include Google for Education, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Instructor-Focused Topics: OIT teaches workshops on available teaching and learning applications and classroom technologies. Workshop topics include learning the software and applying teaching strategies with those programs. Look for workshops on Zoom, Canvas, applying the UT template to your courses, assessment tools, and Panopto.
Research-Focused Topics: UT supports over 20 software applications and offers minimal support for additional software, including NVivo, ArcGIS, SPSS, STATA, R, Qualtrics, and ChemDraw.

Self-Paced, Online Training

OIT has made 30 of our popular workshops available for you to learn on your own. Simply self-enroll in these Canvas-based workshops with your UT NetID and Password. Choose between 11 teaching and productivity and 19 research topics.

Learn on Your Own with LinkedIn Learning  

LinkedIn Learning is an online educational learning platform that helps you discover and develop business, technology-related, and creative skills through on-demand, expert-led video-based content. UT Knoxville faculty, staff, and actively enrolled students can access LinkedIn Learning with their UT NetID and Password.

LinkedIn Learning Supports Your Teaching: Stay current with technologies within your discipline. Support student learning by providing training for the applications required in your class so you can focus class time on applying the knowledge within these applications. Examples of available courses include Microsoft Excel, Mathematica, PowerPoint, and skills-based courses such as Creating and Giving a Presentation. Courses are presented in 7 different languages to support learners in their primary language.  

LinkedIn Learning Supports Your Researcher: Learn more about designing effective surveys and developing questionnaires and survey instruments. Learn research applications like ArcGIS, SAS, and SPSS and the strategies behind various research methods.

Workshops on Request

OIT will teach workshops for your department or your class. Do any of these training situations match your needs?

  • Your department wants to learn to use Microsoft Teams to collaborate and share files.
  • Your students have a project that will require Photoshop or creating a Qualtrics survey.
  • You will be traveling and don’t want to cancel a class.
  • You are teaching a multi-section course with new instructors and graduate students and need to get everyone up to speed on using the Canvas Gradebook and Canvas Studio.
