OIT Enhances Security with New Identity Verification Measures

In response to recent security events impacting members of our campus community, the Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) has implemented a new identity verification procedure when requesting certain account actions in Duo. This measure aims to safeguard personal information and enhance data security when updating phone numbers in Duo or requesting a bypass code.

Starting immediately, if there is a discrepancy between the phone number on file in Duo and the one provided or a bypass code is requested, individuals are required to verify their identity by sending a text message with a photo (selfie) holding their photo ID to the OIT HelpDesk. It is important that the ID picture and text are clear and legible. In instances where text verification is not feasible, a video call will be arranged to assist the caller with presenting their photo ID live. If neither electronic method suffices, the caller will be directed to visit the Commons in person to complete their verification process.

OIT remains dedicated to maintaining a secure environment for its students, faculty, and staff. By adopting these new procedures, the university reaffirms its commitment to protecting individual privacy and promoting digital safety across campus.
