New Chief Information Security Technology Officer Announced

We are pleased to announce that Matthew Williams has taken on the additional role of Chief Technology Officer for the University in addition to his role as Chief Information Security Officer. This new role is effective as of July 1, 2024. We are excited to have an IT executive who excels in both domains to such a degree that combining the roles was an obvious decision.  Congratulations Matt!

The combined role of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), aka CISTO, is a highly strategic position that oversees both the cybersecurity and technology infrastructure of an organization. This executive is responsible for:

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive information security strategy to protect the organization against cyber threats and ensure data privacy
  • Leading the technology strategy, which includes the adoption of new technologies, management of IT resources, and alignment of IT initiatives with business goals
  • Managing the IT risk framework, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring that technology practices adhere to regulatory standards
  • Overseeing the security architecture and ensuring that security measures are integrated into all technology solutions
  • Directing the incident response plan, handling security breaches, and coordinating with legal and public relations teams during incidents
  • Providing leadership and direction to the IT and security teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of both cybersecurity and technology trends. The CISTO must be able to communicate effectively with other executives, stakeholders, and the board of directors to ensure that the organization’s technology and security strategies support its overall mission and objectives.
