What is it? RStudio is an open-source integrated development environments (IDE) released by Posit Public Benefit Corporation. RStudio provides a user-friendly interface for writing R and Python code making it easier to perform statistical computing, machine learning, and data analysis using either language. Additional functionality includes syntax highlighting, code completion, debugging tools, and visualization capabilities.

RStudio pre-dates Positron, and focuses on providing users with enhanced R functionality. This includes an R add-in system, visual editors for R Markdown and Quarto, and Sweave integration for incorporating LaTeX code. The most popular way to run R is through RStudio.

What can the license be used for? Enrolled students, faculty, and staff may use the RStudio for instruction, noncommercial research, commercial research, or administrative purposes. Specific license details can be found as follows here.

Where can I run it? You can install RStudio, on any Linux, Mac or Windows computer. You must have R installed on your machine first. RStudio is available on Apps@UT, and on the computers in the OIT public computer labs. There is no simultaneous user limit for their use.

How can I learn it? OIT offers workshops each semester on how to get started with R and Python. Posit also offers an online user guides for RStudio.
