Student Education Records (FERPA)



Data Description

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records containing information directly related to a student and are maintained by the University of Tennessee or by a person acting for the university. FERPA governs the release of, and access to, student education records. Directory information about a student is not regulated by FERPA and can be released by the university without the student’s permission.

  • Student ID Numbers
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Transcripts
  • Class schedules
  • Academic history reports
  • Degree audit reports
  • Class rolls
  • Grade rolls
  • Advising notes
  • Financial records
