Frequently Used Tools:

OIT Exchange Email Setup

There are two options for checking your email on the Exchange system: 1) Use Tmail Outlook Web Access web interface and 2) Use a client such as Outlook or Entourage on your personal or work computer.

Reasons to use OWA:

  • OWA works from all computers, in all modern browsers.
  • There is nothing to install. Since no client is needed, OWA is ideal for use when away from work or school. (OIT reminds you to only use OWA to check your mail from secure computers that are free from viruses and spyware.)

Benefits of using a client:

  • Using a client provides you with many more features and options than OWA. The interface is also superior to OWA.
  • Exchange clients (Outlook 2003 for Windows, Entourage 2004 for Mac OS) are available free-of-charge. UT is licensed to allow all UT-affilated persons to download Outlook and Entourage from the University.
  • See the FAQ for a comparison of OWA and Outlook 2003.

Email on the iPhone is not compatible with Microsoft Exchange and AT&T highly discourages forwarding business emails to these phones until more technical information is available regarding security of email transactions. These phones are being marketed a s a "personal" device, not a business device.
  • IMAP & POP Client Configuration
Outlook 2003 and Entourage 2004 are available to all UT-affliated persons free of charge. If you do not want to use these supported products, documentation is available on connecting to your Exchange email account via IMAP and POP. Evolution instructions are also available.
