It only takes a few seconds for someone to access your computer, and that’s all it takes to compromise sensitive data, send unauthorized emails, or install malicious software. Whether you’re in a shared office, classroom, or public space, locking your screen when stepping away is one of the simplest ways to protect your device and your data.

Leaving your computer unlocked, even briefly, creates an opportunity for the following:

  • Unauthorized access to university systems
  • Accidental data exposure
  • Misuse of your account or email
  • Potential violations of UT policy

Quick Ways to Lock Your Screen:

  • Windows: Press Windows Key + L
  • Mac: Press Control + Command + Q
  • Use the lock option from your system menu
