What is it? HLM from Scientific Software International is a package that does multilevel models which are also often called Hierarchical Linear Models (HLMs). An example of a multilevel model is a regression equation showing how studying increases grades. That relationship may differ at different levels, such as teachers within schools within districts. Click here to view the types of machine learning algorithms supported by this software.
What can I use it for? Enrolled students, faculty, and staff can use HLM for university-related teaching and academic research purposes. HLM may not be used for administrative purposes. Use that benefits outside organizations requires the purchase of a commercial license.
Where can I run it? For UTK, HLM is available on OIT’s Apps@UT server and on the computers in the OIT public computer labs. There is a two simultaneous user limit for HLM.
How can I learn it? You can learn HLM from the resource page of SSI, which contains the entire manual. However, to understand the manual, you can use the book by the program’s developers, Raudenbush and Bryk, Hierarchical Liner Models, Applications and Data Analysis Methods which can be found on the author’s publications site.
