Get to know the learning tools and resources available to students. The information on this site is designed to foster the effective use of technology for online or in-person classes. This site provides a curated selection of existing OIT resources with tips for their use, organized to support a variety of learning methods used by University of Tennessee instructors. We hope you will find this resource informative and helpful.
Make sure to test the following equipment for use at home, in the dorm, or in other locations:
- Laptop or desktop computer.
- Microphone: This may be built into the laptop or computer. If not, use an external device such as a USB microphone or headphones.
- Webcam: A camera may already be built into the laptop. If not, use an external USB camera for video conferencing.
- Internet: Either commercially provided (ex. Comcast, AT&T, etc), or a wireless hotspot through your mobile phone.
Be prepared! Test access to your equipment and resources and contact us if you have any questions.

Don’t forget to check your email daily. You can use a web browser, a smartphone, or a mobile device. If you will be away from your email or checking it less frequently, don’t forget to update your Out-of-Office message.
- Proctorio: Self-Enroll, Online Workshop
Proctorio is an automated remote proctoring service that is integrated with Canvas. Your instructors may assign online exams within this service. - Akindi
Akindi is an online, multiple-choice, bubble sheet style assement tool that may be used by your instructors to assign examinations for online or in-person classes. Learn how to access and submit your Akindi Assessments through Canvas.
- Learn which technologies are available in your classroom
If you are asked to present in a face-to-face classroom, you will find all of the information and technologies available to best represent you and your work.

- Practice Your Presentation in Hodges Library
The Practice Presentation Rooms were conceived as a place for students to train, practice their presentation, conduct video conferences, study in groups, or conduct meetings.

Zoom
Zoom is available to students for projects, study groups, and even club meetings. Check out the Best Practices for Participants guide for helpful hints and tips.
Microsoft and Google
Save your files online so you can get to them from anywhere. OIT recommends Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for online file storage. Do you need to work on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with your project team or classmates? Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace support online collaboration.
UT Vault
If need to send large files or need to send files securely, use the UT Vault secure file-transfer service.

- Qualtrics
Qualtrics, a powerful online survey research tool, is available to all faculty, staff, and students at UTK, UTC, UTM, and UTHSC.
- Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365 for Education provides students with email, online document editing and storage, access to the Office Web Apps, and Office 365 ProPlus which includes Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac. - Google
Google for Education provides students with email, online document editing with Docs, Sheets, and Slides, online storage, and more. - Software downloads and cloud-based apps
UT has contracts with many software vendors to provide students access to many great programs. While much of the software is available for academic use at no additional charge, some of the recommended applications will need to be purchased through VolShop. - OIT Computer Labs
Visit the OIT Computer Labs website for information about the location of the computer labs, types of hardware and software available in the lab, and hours of operation. - Use the virtual computer lab, Apps@UT, from any Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, or Android device. You can open and save files on your computer and print to your printer.
LinkedIn Learning
