While WiFi and Internet connectivity may be the first things that come to mind when accessing campus technologies, several teams support UT’s underlying IT infrastructure where the real “magic” happens. “
Our infrastructure and network teams do the heavy lifting behind the scenes to provide the foundation for every system, application, and tool used by faculty, staff, and students.”

Campus Network
OIT provides the Knoxville campus with wired and wireless networks. Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure WiFi access at UTK. Through UT’s membership with Intranet2, the UTK community can leverage these secure, high-speed global wireless services for their research and education endeavors on campus and at participating institutions in over 100 territories worldwide.
In Fall 2024, the campus network processed an incredible amount of internet activity—equivalent to 14.2 petabytes of data. This represents a 34% increase compared to last year, showcasing how our digital resources are being used more than ever!
How much is 14.2 PB, you might ask?
Up Next: OIT is kicking off a network evaluation to determine the next generation of UTK’s network. Expect great things in the coming years!
