Request a URL

If you are looking to build a new website, learn more about your options online.

Departments and organizations with an existing website can request a university-hosted URL.

Because the university’s website is a platform for communicating with external stakeholders, such as prospective students, researchers, and faculty, about university activities, requests for top-level utk.edu and tennessee.edu URLs are subject to approval.

Top-level URLs are typically reserved for the following groups:

  • Colleges, schools, and major administrative divisions
  • Academic Departments, Academic Support Units, Administrative Divisions, Administrative Support Units, Major Research Initiatives

Examples of top-level URLs include admissions.utk.edu, cci.utk.edu, and payroll.tennessee.edu.

If your organization needs a non-UT URL, such as .org, .net, and .com, OIT can consult with you about securing one of these URLs.

How to submit a URL request
