Classroom Tech Practice

PRIOR TO ARRIVING FOR YOUR PRACTICE SESSION

Review the video training available online

Prior to attending your scheduled, in-classroom, Zoom practice session, watch the training videos available at the new classrooms.utk.edu website. This site has individualized instructions for most registrar-controlled classrooms on campus.

Load the Zoom application to both your phone and your laptop

You can download Zoom by visiting https://tennessee.zoom.us/ and selecting the Download Zoom button.

What to bring to the training:

  • Bring your fully-charged laptop or other mobile device you plan to use this fall.
  • HDMI or ethernet adaptors
  • Your cell phone.
  • Any power cables.

Write down your questions

Consider the teaching style you will require for your classes and have your questions ready for us. With the varied teaching modalities you may require this fall, instructors will be simultaneously teaching students in person in a physical classroom while the rest will be attending the class online via Zoom. This type of split classroom is called a Hyflex course. Learn more at our Technology and Teaching Modalities page.

ARRIVE TO THE SCHEDULED CLASSROOM 15 MINUTES EARLY

Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to ensure you can access the building and locate the room. Should you find the building locked, try scanning your UTID to see if it will unlock the door. If your ID does not unlock the door, please call 865-974-0808 and state that you have approved training in the space and the door is locked, and ask to be let into the building. UTPD is aware of the training sessions going on.

Then, log on to the Zoom session provided for you via email. An OIT trainer will be waiting to meet you over Zoom. If you run into any problems, simply log in to your Zoom session to talk to your trainer or call the OIT HelpDesk at 865-974-9900.

LOGISTICS FOR YOUR ZOOM PRACTICE SESSION

You will be in the physical classroom, and the OIT trainer will meet you over Zoom.

The OIT trainers will assist you with connecting to the podium the way you would when teaching. They will walk you through selections you need to make to share your screen online and in the classroom, or view what the student will see while you are teaching. The show-and-tell aspect of this training will require that you log into either your web cam enabled computer, or log in to Zoom on your phone to show us what you are seeing on the Cynap, podium, and control panel.
