Frequently Asked Questions About AI
Welcome to the UT Verse FAQ where you will get to explore some of the most common questions we receive.
Who has access to UT Verse?
Anyone at UT who has an active netID may use UT Verse. This includes Students, Staff and Faculty state-wide.
How much does UT Verse cost?
UT Verse is available to all faculty, student and staff at no additional cost.
Is my data and conversations protected?
Yes, your data is protected at rest and in transit. None of the conversations you create are used as part of improving or training the model in any manner. Chat logs cannot be seen by other users.
UT Verse is slow; how can I make the responses faster?
On a regular day, UT Verse responses may be as fast but on some days, there may be congestions with either the AI service or your internet service provider. This is normal and expected. However, there are some ways which you can boost UT Verse. One way is to disable AI skills such as Wikipedia or Internet Search. When using the Wikipedia tool, UT Verse searches Wikipedia for information and relies on the speed of Wikipedia and whether or not there are results. If no results are found, it may try different things and this process can take a while, perhaps upwards to 15 seconds! It is recommended that you disable internet related skills to accelerate responses, but understand that the information returned will not be as accurate or up-to-date.
Can I download the files I have uploaded?
Unfortunately, after the file has been processed during the upload sequence, it deletes itself. An embedded version becomes part of your own database on UT Verse. Furthermore, when you delete files from your account, this deletes the embeddings from the database.
Are files the same as when I uploaded them?
Imagine you take a picture and then save it as a jpeg. There will be loss of information because of compression and that is when you see artifacts in the image. When you upload files, there is a process called embedding which loses some information like a jpeg would. This is one of the limitations of AI that very smart engineers around the world are trying to overcome.
What file format does UT Verse support?
UT Verse supports many different file formats including Word Documents, PDFs, images and so on. We have the up-to-date list listed in the app under Help > Document Uploads.
Does UT Verse Support Excel files?
As explained in the question βAre files the same as when I uploaded them?β there are limitations with AI. Excel files are generally filled with numbers which would not be appropriate for data loss. However, we have a solution and plans to resolve this in a future update.
What platform does UT Verse support?
UT Verse has been tested on a variety of modern web browsers and operating systems including mobile devices. Please ensure that your device and web browser is up to date for the best experience.
Can UT Verse be embedded in (x) app?
UT Verse does not permit cross-site embedding as it can pose security risks and may violate FERPA, HIPPA and other guidelines. However, you may let us know what you would like to accomplish with UT Verse and perhaps that feature can be included in the project.
How do I make a suggestion for the website, vodcast, event, or the UT Verse App?
