AI Tools at UT

The following AI tools are centrally managed or supported by UT IT. These platforms are covered by institutional agreements and offer enhanced security and privacy protections compared to public AI services. 

However, all usage must comply with UT data classification requirements. 


Chat Tools 

  • UT AI Hub
    The UT AI Hub serves as a comprehensive platform providing access to full versions of several leading large language models: ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, and more.

  • UT Verse 
    UT Verse AI Assistant is a chat-based, AI-powered platform specific to the University of Tennessee faculty, staff, and students. It is UT’s generative AI chat, where you can have AI conversations about topics geared toward the university community, instruction, business, and research.

  • Microsoft Copilot 
    Copilot is Microsoft’s AI-powered chat platform for searching, creating content, and communicating with others. Use Copilot for general AI conversations that do not include conversations about your research or proprietary university data. You can write prompts related to creating assignments, looking up Excel commands, creating images, and more.

Meeting Summary and Notetaking Tools 

  • Teams Premium 
    This enhanced version builds on the familiar, all-in-one collaborative experience of Microsoft Teams, making meetings more intelligent, personalized, and secure—whether for one-on-one interactions, large meetings, virtual appointments, or webinars.

  • Zoom AI Companion 
    The Zoom AI Companion includes features such as meeting summary, interactive content creation with new whiteboards, and recording highlights.

Note: OIT does not have a contract or subscription for additional third-party meeting summary tools, including Otter.ai, and recommends against using them after identifying potential vulnerabilities that could compromise the privacy and integrity of our communications. 


Academic and Research Tools 

  • Research
    OIT Research outlines specific academic and AI uses allowed for all supported research software applications available through the university along with additional helpful information.

Reminder: Even if an AI tool is centrally managed or contracted by UT, the following guidelines still apply.

  • It may not be appropriate for all data types. 
  • It is still subject to UT data classification restrictions. 
  • It is still subject to the Guidelines for Responsible Use.
