Interactive Video Conferencing allows users from different locations to transmit live video and audio to each other simultaneously. There are different ways to accomplish IVC. OIT uses the most common protocol for IVC, which is H.323. This protocol sends the video and audio signal across the network just like email, web traffic, etc. With an H.323 video conferencing system, no special connections are required, just a network port.
OIT Engineering Services provides the University with a number of video conferencing services. We can provide connections to single or multiple facilities for distance education, research collaboration, and administrative meetings, saving time and travel costs. We work with and maintain a list of IVC facilities at the various UT campuses and facilities across the state. We also regularly establish connection to facilities outside the UT system. Finally, we provide consulting services to departments interested in deploying their own video conferencing systems.
Video Conferencing Services are available to all UT faculty, students and staff. Services can be requested by non-UT individuals or organizations and are considered on a case-by-case basis.
