What A Year We’ve Had!

It’s December, and a time to reflect on all that has happened this year, a year that has been anything but normal.  This year, our team stepped up to assist the university in moving online for the spring and summer terms and supporting our hybrid environment this fall.  Here are some highlights:

  • Provided a telephone solution that allowed teams such as the OIT HelpDesk and One Stop to work remotely
  • Distributed laptops and hotspots to students, faculty, and staff who needed assistance to attend school and work remotely
  • Created new resources for faculty to assist them in the transition to teaching line
  • Outfitted hundreds of classrooms with new technology, created the new classrooms.utk.edu website, and trained faculty on the use of new technology
  • Provided Zoom Pro accounts to all of our faculty
  • Assisted in the creation of the Vol Virtual Bootcamp to support faculty delivering their courses online
  • Created Selfscreen tool for fac/staff, students, and visitors
  • Provided wifi at touchdown spaces

In addition to all the work related to the pandemic, our team has continued to move forward in a variety of initiatives, such as:

  • Launched TeamDynamix, a new Service Portal for managing IT requests
  • Worked with the Online Course Jumpstart faculty cohorts, completing 44 online courses with another 15 currently under development
  • Partnered with several offices to streamline the Annual Compliance Training
  • Upgraded wireless in several locations on campus
  • Continued the two-factor authentication initiative
  • Redesigned the OIT website to improve usability
  • Transitioned from the Advanced Computing Facility (ACF) to ISAAC, the Infrastructure for Scientific Applications and Advanced Computing
  • Added UTM faculty and staff to Office 365; now you can easily find them in Office 365 for email and meetings, sharing files in OneDrive, and collaborating over Teams
  • Supported the university’s renovation efforts with network and telephony, including Conference Center, Ellington Plant Science, Engineering Services Building, and the West Campus Dining Facility

Throughout the year, all the teams within OIT work to support your technology efforts.  Contact us at 865-974-9900 if you need assistance getting the semester started.

Happy Holidays from all of us at OIT!
