Changes to T-Storage Home Area (H: Drive)

October 13, 2020, OIT made changes to T-Storage Home areas.
Changes to Quotas
- Anyone with an existing home area using less than 750 MB of storage will receive a reduced quota of 1GB for their home area. Anyone using more than 750 MB of storage will remain unchanged.
- New users will be assigned a 1 GB quota for their home area by default.
Changes to Mapped Drives
We discontinued automatically mapping home areas for NEW computers that connect to our network; however, if the drive is currently auto-mapping, it will continue to do so. As always, you can manually map the drive as needed.
These changes are part of our efforts to reduce costs by minimizing on-premise T-Storage use in favor of cloud storage. OIT encourages the use of cloud-based Microsoft OneDrive for Business or Google Drive storage due to their advantages such as local disk caching, real-time collaboration, automated backup, versioning, and accessibility on all internet-connected devices. All faculty, staff, and students have access to a UT Microsoft Office 365 and a UT Google account, including access to these services. Visit OIT’s File Sharing and Storage webpage for more information about these services.
Please Note: These changes will NOT affect departmental I: drives.
