Get to Know Your Classrooms for Fall

You may not yet know exactly which classroom you’re teaching in, but you probably know if you will be teaching to a large or medium-sized class. We can help you get started with training and learning the classroom technology. OIT has created online, self-paced documentation and is offering follow-up, individualized support on how to use the technology in your classroom prior to the start of classes.

New Website to Learn the Classroom Technology

Start your training by visiting the new website. Here, you will find specific instructions for registrar-controlled classrooms and training resources for using your classroom technology to its fullest. We have specific information and instructions available online now, and we are working to complete all of the classroom support documentation daily until the list is complete. If your specific classroom is not listed yet, start with our general training support available under the “Technology Training” link on the site.

If you are accustomed to our standard, semesterly TEC drop-in training sessions, this new training will replace those standard sessions. If you have questions and need general support you may contact the OIT HelpDesk to have a trainer contact you. Contact the OIT HelpDesk online or by phone at 865-974-9900.

Know the Classroom Size

If you know which classroom you’ll be teaching in, you can check and search for your room. Note the style of control panel in your room. Then, come back to the online training support documentation to see if it looks like a Medium or Large classroom.

Sign Up for a Training Session

After identifying the classroom size you’ll be teaching in and have familiarized yourself with the online training resources, plan to attend one of our training sessions. We will have rooms reserved in classrooms where you can go to the classroom to get hands-on experience with the technology. You will connect with one of our trainers in a Zoom room to walk through the process and get support as you work out all the kinks for fall. Decide which training you require based on the room-size.

You will go to the classroom, and our OIT consultant will meet with you over Zoom to work with you.

Student Experience
Request “Student Experience” training if you’re already familiar with how to use the technology in the classroom and want to have a frank conversation about how your online students will be viewing what you’re doing in the classroom.

Would you like a quick how-to lesson on setting up your classroom to use Zoom for online students while teaching face-to-face? Check out these videos:

  • Using Zoom and Cynap for In-Class and Online Students
This video will explain how to use Zoom on the Cynap so that you can share your laptop, PowerPoint slides, or document camera with your online students to give them as close to an in-class experience as possible.

  • Connecting to Zoom and Projector for In-Class and Online Instruction
This video will explain how you can easily adapt from connecting your laptop using the HDMI cable in the classroom to also sharing with your students online. This model does not use the interactive Cynap capabilities and is closer to how many instructors connect during a normal class period simply connecting your laptop to a projector to display your PowerPoint slides.
