Do You Need Help Linking or Embedding Panopto Video into Canvas?

Hopefully, you are familiar with Panopto, UTK’s lecture capture platform that houses lecture recordings, digitized films for coursework, and other course-related videos. Panopto is integrated into class podiums across campus and captures, records, and delivers lectures and interfaces directly with Canvas and Zoom. While this platform is easy to use, we receive the occasional question about linking to class recordings, uploading video content, and accessing Digital Media Services (DMS) digitized content to a current Canvas course. We invite you to view and bookmark the following step-by-step tutorials and video hosting services.

Add Panopto video content to your Canvas course: Use the Rich Content Editor or the Add Item to Module features.
View the step-by-step guide on adding video content to Canvas.

Embed Panopto-hosted video into a learning module: Panopto’s integration with Zoom allows you to place videos within a learning unit. No linking out to another browser window or application.

Request reactivation of digitized video: If you have video content that was digitized by OIT in a previous semester, but the link is no longer working, you will need submit a request for the Panopto catalog links to be reactivated. OIT abides by copyright laws and fair use guidelines on all materials that are not created and owned by an instructor. Along with your request, we will ask that you include the course name and number, the number of sections you are teaching, and the number of students enrolled. Once the catalog is reactivated, the link or embedded code you used previously will continue to work. If you need access to previously digitized course material, contact DMS and we will take care of the rest.
