Creating Your First AI Agent in the UT AI Hub: My Email Helper

The UT AI Hub makes it easy to create custom AI agents that help with everyday work. One useful example is My Email Helper, an agent designed to help faculty and staff draft positive, professional, and helpful email responses. Once created, the agent can save time, support clear communication, and help keep your replies friendly and consistent.
Getting Started
Step 1: Open the UT AI Hub
Sign in to the UT AI Hub using your NetID and password. Once you are logged in, go to the Explore Agents area and choose the option to create a new agent in the My Agents section.
Step 2: Name Your Agent
Enter the name: My Email Helper
A clear, descriptive name makes the agent easier to find and reuse later.
Step 3: Define the Agent’s Purpose
In the Specific Field, explain what you want the agent to do and how you want it to respond. For example:
You are a friendly and professional email assistant. When I provide an email, help me draft a positive, helpful, and concise reply. Use a respectful tone, answer questions clearly, and maintain a customer-service mindset. Thank the sender when appropriate, avoid negative or defensive language, and end with an offer to provide additional assistance.
Step 4: Add a Knowledge Source or Web Access, If Needed
If you have a document with information, the agent should reference, upload it as a Knowledge Source, and attach it to the agent. If you want the agent to use current information from the web, enable the web option.
Step 5: Save the Agent
Review your instructions and settings, then save the agent. Once saved, My Email Helper will be available whenever you need assistance responding to emails.
Step 6: Use Your Agent
When you are ready to draft an email response, open the UT AI Hub and select My Email Helper from your list of available agents. Paste the email you received into the chat window and enter a prompt such as:
“Write a positive and helpful reply to this email.”
You can also ask the agent to make the response more formal, more friendly, shorter, or more detailed. Review the draft, make any desired edits, and then copy the response into your email application.
Why Use My Email Helper?
My Email Helper helps busy faculty and staff draft clear, friendly replies faster. By using it for routine email responses, you can save time, improve consistency, and stay focused on the work that requires your expertise.
