CAS: Slight Change

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) is announcing a slight change to authentication for central services such as Canvas, MyUTK, MyIRIS, and more. These sites use the university’s Central Authentication Service, or CAS for short. Starting in late March, everyone who logs in through this site will annually acknowledge IT0110 – Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources or, as it is commonly known, the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The Acceptable Use Policy not only allows you to understand your relationship with University’s IT resources, but it also enables you to protect yourself and our larger community better.
For several years, whenever you change your password, you have been required to acknowledge that you have read and accepted the University’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). Now that NetID passwords are protected by two-factor authentication, many users are no longer required to change them regularly. We are updating central authentication to direct you to acknowledge the AUP at least once a year. Once the new process is in place, we will prompt you to accept the AUP the next time you log in to a service that uses central authentication. You only need to do this annually.
