Apply for the New OIT Accessibility by Design Grant

If you are interested in improving the accessibility of files you create, consider participating in a grant initiative to pilot OIT’s Accessibility Evaluation Implementation Tools (AEIT) checklists and guides. OIT developed these tools to allow anyone to assess and improve the accessibility of various products.

Who is eligible? 

Faculty, staff, and graduate assistants at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, can apply to evaluate one or multiple products using the corresponding AEIT checklist.

Which file types can be evaluated?

Canvas, WordPress, Camtasia, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Incentives range from $100 to $300.

What is required?

If selected, you will need to: 

  1. Submit the document, website, course pages, etc., for a baseline evaluation.
  2. Use the corresponding AEIT resource to evaluate and revise the course or materials to address accessibility.
  3. Submit the revised content to OIT.
  4. Meet with OIT staff to review your results.
  5. Complete a survey about your experience with the AEIT resource.
  6. Participate in a focus group or individual interview about your experience (approximately 30 minutes).

When is the application due?

Apply by May 25, 2021, to participate this summer.
