2019 The Year in Review Faculty Services
It’s December, and a time to reflect on all that has happened this year. We’ve had another busy year! Here are a handful of projects that we worked on in 2019 to help ensure your success:
Course Development for Faculty Through Grants and Special Programs
2019 Faculty First grant: 5 year-long project collaborations
2019 Arts and Sciences Summer Online Courses: 8 online course development partnerships
UT Libraries OER Grant Support: partnered with 5 faculty on 6 courses
Two-Factor Authentication
OIT launched a successful Knoxville, campus-wide, two-factor authentication (2FA) project to ensure our campus community accounts stay safe. We want to thank everyone for their participation and the many early adopters. Learn more and keep all of your new devices connected.
Mandatory Training Available in Canvas
Training that had been previously available only to faculty, staff, and GTA’s is now available for students, emeritus faculty, retirees, and sponsored accounts.
Courses available through Canvas includes:
- Security Awareness Training
- FERPA
- Campus Security Authority (Clery Act)
- Title IX
Please note that this training does not replaces the required training for faculty and staff available through K@TE.
LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning replaced Lynda.com, an online training platform available to the UT community with your NetID and password providing 24-hour access to help with software and soft skills for work, for projects, and for keeping our UT community skills current.

Online Course Development
Launched an online jumpstart program to create a systematic partnership between faculty, their departments, and the Office of the Provost, Office of Information Technology and Teaching and Learning Innovation. The first Online Course Development Cohort began this fall.

Org Chart Manager
Developed by Human Resources, OIT, IRIS, and ITS, Org Chart Manager is an easy to use web interface, integrated with IRIS, which provides the capability to view and change reporting relationships of University positions. Learn more and log in to Org Chart Manager
Classroom Upgrades
Better Presentation Platform
More than 25 classrooms on campus received technology updates that included Wolfvision Cynap technology.

Renovation to Classrooms: HSS 201/202 Computer Lab Renovation
Seating capacity was increased by six for a total of 45 student seats, plus two instructor stations. We installed two new ceiling-mounted Epson projectors which have better resolution and include speakers located in the front of each room, as well as several other upgrades such as updated furniture and dividing curtain.
