Dr. Sally Hunter, Lecturer, Department of Child and Family Studies
Dr. Sally Hunter joined the University of Tennessee department of Child and Family Studies in 2009. The 2011 Summer Teaching Institute gave Dr. Hunter several ideas on how to put technology to good use in her class. She took the first step by introducing Blackboard Learn online quizzes and exams as an alternative to time-consuming scantron tests. Now Dr. Hunter’s students take automatically graded exams in a computer lab and receive immediate feedback upon completion.
There is not much paper wasted in Dr. Hunter’s courses. Dr. Hunter’s students submit papers electronically through the Blackboard Assignment tool and complete other assignments via blogs and wikis. Dr. Hunter uses the Blackboard rubric tool for grading.
Dr. Hunter often brings visitors, either to the actual classroom or through an online video call for the demonstration of motor and cognitive development skills studied in the course. A SMART board and a document camera are important tools in her classroom.
And that’s not all! View Dr. Hunter’s video to learn about her Online Fridays, online lectures, a plan to transition one of her classes to a fully online learning environment, and more.
