Senior Lecturer Renée D’Elia-Zunino: Encouraging Students to Learn Italian by Playing a Detective
Senior Lecturer Renée D’Elia-Zunino, from the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, intended to immerse her students in the Italian language and culture. And what could be a better way to do so than engaging students with a detective story! With OIT’s assistance, Ms. D’Elia-Zunino created a media-rich learning module, “Ispettor Zunicchi” centered around a murder mystery to be solved.
A crime has been committed, and students must discover who has committed the crime, why it was committed, and what weapon was used. Italian is the only language allowed in the classroom where students go through a series of reading and listening activities to find clues to the puzzle.
