Michelle J. Smith, Theory and Practice In Teacher Education

Topic:
Using Multimedia Productions to Assess the Understanding of the Cultural Impact of Educational Policies and Practices

Course:
CSE 200: Survey of International Education

Abstract:

The Survey of International Education course looks to explore the educational experiences within various cultural contexts. This course uses social and economic narratives to help students understand the ontology of the policies and theories that help construct and uphold the educational systems. As the instructor, my goal is to create a more authentic form of assessment by allowing students to be able to construct a series of multimedia productions to allow for a deeper and more intentional purview of the contexts, issues, and strengths within chosen educational systems. Not only will this be an alternative to traditional multiple choice tests and/or final papers, but it will prepare students to be more engaged in class discussions and create a rich learning environment.
