Graduate Teaching Assistant, Instructional Support and Training

The University of Tennessee’s Office of Information Technology Instructional Support and Training Team is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Graduate Teaching Assistant. This Graduate Teaching Assistantship, which is a twelve-month, half-time appointment, carries a stipend and a waiver of tuition and maintenance fees, including the summer session. A half-time Graduate Teaching Assistant works twenty hours per week and is expected to work spring, summer, fall semesters, and mini terms.

The Graduate Teaching Assistant provides technology support to staff, faculty, and students.

OIT is looking for a graduate student with the ability to quickly learn and explain new technology; strong communications skills (both verbal and written); Advanced Microsoft Excel, Strong Microsoft Office, and Strong PowerPoint skills.

The ideal candidate must possess good communication, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to work efficiently within tight deadlines; and aptitude to quickly learn and apply new technology skills.

Duties include the following:

  • Technical writing/editing, creating step-by-step written instructions
  • Creating instructional videos, including editing closed captions
  • Updating WordPress webpages
  • Consulting with faculty, staff, and students on MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other MS products needed (Training in those products will be provided)
  • Teaching technology workshops under the guidance of a trainer
  • Developing asynchronous and synchronous technology training under the guidance of a trainer
  • Assisting and training instructors on the use of classroom technology, including WolfVision Cynap, document cameras, projectors. (Training will be provided)
  • Writing of social media posts
  • Creating simple graphics

Required Qualification:

Candidate MUST have:

  • Strong MS Excel, including database and analysis, experience

and some of the following:

  • MS Office Word and PowerPoint
  • Web development and HTML coding
  • Development of presentations which include graphics, video, and audio
  • WordPress
  • Social media writing
  • Writing and editing experience
  • Teaching
  • Adobe Suite
