Telephone Services maintains an extensive infrastructure, consisting of copper and fiber - both underground and aerial. Considering the nature of the signals transmitted via the campus infrastructure, crucial services could be disrupted in the event of damage. If damage occurs, emergency restoration will begin upon notification.
Telephone Services coordinates with Tennessee 811 in order to reduce the underground infrastructure's exposure to damage. Telephone Services has identified for TN811 grids that contain copper and fiber. TN811 notifies Telephone Services of plans to dig in any of these grids. Before excavation begins, Telephone Services locates and marks underground infrastructure.
OIT Engineering Services and network services provide a variety of surveillance support on campus.
The switching system is equipped with redundant processors. If a processor outage occurs during business hours, Telephone Services will respond directly, but after hours, UT Police will contact the appropriate Telephone Services employee on call.
The university maintains a relationship with the Tennessee One Call service to provide infrastructure location to prevent the possibility of service interruptions for the campus community. To reach the Tennessee One Call service, call 1-800-351-1111, or from the Knoxville area, call 811.
Upon request, OIT Communications provides written estimates for the services provided within the group. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information
