Account Registration "Show Me" Files
The Account Registration "show me" files allow you to watch videos that demonstrate step by step instructions for registering for your email and unix accounts.
Registering for a WebMail Account. You must have an email account in order to send and receive mail within the UT system. University email is especially important for those who have classes that use Blackboard Course Management. You will receive 20 MB of space free if you are a student and 40 MB free if you are faculty or staff. To register, you will need your NetID and password. This video demonstrates how to determine if you are already registered for a UT email address and if not, how to register for your account. Approximate play time: 3.16 minutes.
Registering for your Unix Account. You must register for a unix account if you wish to develop a web site or store files and additional email on a UT server. You will receive 50 MB of storage space free and may purchase additional space. You will need your NetID and password to register for this account. This video demonstrates the steps needed to register for a unix account. Approximate play time: 2.57 minutes.
Initializing your UNIX Account. If you have tried to use Volspace to access your UNIX account and could not, you may need to use the Secure Shell client or SSH to logon to your UNIX account and complete the initialzation process. This video will show you how to use SSH to logon to your UNIX account and complete the initialzation of your account. Approximate play time: 6.30 minutes.
| There are two ways you can use the videos. First, you can watch them, then register for your accounts. Alternatively, you can complete the steps while watching the video by using the Pause button on the video player. All videos do include sound so you may need a headset to hear the audio in the labs. |
